Chaotic Boy Energy, series 2 of a series which will never be made
This is a continuation of the lark started here https://elisheva-m.dreamwidth.org/3118.html
It might make slightly more sense to read the first part first but nothing is really spoiled if you do it backwards. Click below to read Season 2 of Chaotic Boy Energy.
Note: The characters of the first season and I are still in suitably chaotic negotiations as to their names. For the sake of clarity, all references here are to the actors I imagine playing them.
Nothing is still spoiled by starting with this, the first part is so low stakes any surprises aren't from the plot. But when I started writing down these ideas for a continuation, I hadn't learned much about how to convey the characters as their own people, the ones who were taking shape and living in my imagination. That these are rough notes only heightens this too. It's probably best to start at the beginning then, dear hypothetical non-existent reader, so they can be their own people in your mind too.
Chaotic Boy Energy Season 2
As the story opens, Neo has finally graduated from university. He and his husband Zhao Louis are once again living full time at Mrs Hong's. They are very happy about this.
Neo celebrates by breaking the fourth wall, sticking his tongue out at the camera, swearing and aiming the garden hose directly at the viewers.
Voice in the sky narrator: This ends the story of a 175th year student.
A week later, Neo turns 200. Drake likes this as the maths is now much easier. The boys throw Neo a big birthday party. Louis is not allowed to light the candles.
Louis and Neo's bedroom is in a separate structure made from concrete and cinder block. There are scorch marks on the walls and big doors spanning nearly the width of the room which open to let the smoke out. There are a dozen water buckets around the room and bed. Some of them are empty and there's water on the floor.
The mysterious handsome stranger with pointed teeth has moved into a room but he won't tell me anything more about himself yet. He maybe looks like Force except the Book in my mind would like to be an easily frightened ghost who talks a lot and walks right through closed doors without knocking because he can't knock and loves the smell of coffee. Except I think a similar plot has already been done, but maybe without the coffee. (It has. It is so superlative to anything I might come up with that mine will be more than different enough. It's the best. Close this window and go watch it, He's Coming to Me. Seriously. Why are you still here? Go. ;-)
Drake's character ended up getting the short end of the stick in the first series so this must be rectified. The handsome stranger? Does an unethical vampire turn Jimmy? Mrs Hong would have to take him in then, and they do have at least one more empty room in their infinite hypothetical supply of empty rooms as Khaotung has moved into First's. Someone else perhaps, but who? Or a different type of cheerful story altogether? Both a cheerful story and a love for Drake.
Khaotung and First are living their best together life. There will be none of this breaking them up in season two for the sake of Drama crap. Or a two episode follow-up. Most of the above and this can be their Our Skyy. Their only strife is the chaos of Neo and Zhao Louis living there permanently, especially as Neo is without a hobby following his forced graduation from university after completing the boss level in every faculty except dentistry which he refused to enroll in following The Incident. This is remedied by First and Khaotung taking up residence in a tree house on the far side of the back garden when they need some peace. Unless it's raining so hard that it's louder than Neo. They often read together there, leaning against each other companionably. A recurring theme is breaking the fourth wall when they're interrupted and wanting to do things best suited to privacy. Khaotung shutting a door on the camera with mischief in his eyes or First extending a hand towards the lens to push the camera away, saying "Go away.... You can't show this on television." It might be later revealed that it's not breaking the fourth wall and one of the immortals is making a documentary about their family.
We also find out that Louis is a glass blower as well as pottery-firer and he and First both sell their work through a high-end gallery. And you thought they were all gainfully unemployed. She said to herself as it's not like anyone else will be giving it that much thought. It turns out fire-breathing is more sustainable than burning stuff so impware is the new rage in artisanal crafts. There's also well-paid work for indestructible immortals in jobs too hazardous for those easily killed. Neo and Drake take demolition gigs because blowing things up is fun. Mrs Hong specialises in rescue missions. Khaotung is serialising life amidst the chaos as a popular web novel titled Life Amidst the Chaos. Social media occasionally blows up in arguments as to whether it's truth or fiction. He's not telling.
Khaotung suggests modifying water pistols so they are suitable for shooting pottery glaze with a range of spray patterns and settings. This is done and Neo is set to work helping with a new and successful line of artisanal impware ceramics called Boy Chaos. Neo is still loud but the house is quieter. Khaotung buys First ear plugs as an apology.
There's a family of ghosts living in the house. They've been there forever and if I were clever enough to figure out how to hint it in and you were paying close attention, you might have picked up on faint images of them throughout the first series. But I'm not so I'll just have to tell you that the vampires, imp and mortals can't see the ghosts but the ghosts are very much aware of them. Chaotic boy running around is frightening when you're whisper thin. Not to mention the fire breathing.
There is a hint now. The others in the house who weren't identified and maybe hypothetical readers assumed was Khaotung, those others are the grownup ghosts. The kids are more agile.
The ghosts are still telling me who they are. Right now there are three grownup ghosts and two teenagers. Except for the days they're kids. It's entirely unclear what gender and orientation they are, or even if they have romance at all. But ghosts suggests people have died, which is sad, and we'd rather not have that so maybe they are spirits who have always been spirits and maybe their romance, and means of making new little ghosts, is intermingling their molecules and sharing the same space but how can this be done with human actors? Male actors whose characters can have babies? I like this.
Anyway, there's a family of ghosts whose lives are superimposed around the boy chaos of the denser life forms we met in season 1.
They are spirits made of water mist and are found wherever there is humidity. When a bodied being runs into them some of their mist is dispersed and it takes some time to pull themselves together. They nourish themselves on smells and steam. They have strong opinions on cooking food, shampoo and shower gel. They hate grilling. It is a dangerous waste of nutritious odors as far as they are concerned.
They look like whatever they want, that's why the other two are so fricking handsome, Book says. Force to Book, and why do you look like you do? It's what you want to see. I remind you of someone? Yes. A long time ago. I was turned. He chose not to.
Maybe Drake's love turns out to be a woman? A full speed ahead agent of chaos who careens into him, laughs and Drake is head over heels in love. Literally. Love is love and maybe it's not a world with vegan vampires and whisper-thin ghosts where being gay is the norm but a world where no one makes distinctions. They love who they love and it all just is. So maybe Force is a vampire and Book is the third grownup ghost and Book loves him so much Force can see him. Maybe Force talks to himself a lot, which is how Book gets to know him, and one day Force hears his replies and the love in his heart. Ok, that's a bit sappy. Embrace the chaos.
Or maybe Drake's love is a chance to play with gender. If vampires can have scorching hot sex with imps and water vapour ghosts played by male actors who may be Earth and Mix can make little ghosts and worry about the practicalities of raising a third whilst living amongst boy chaos and fire breathing when their first two are still young, why not a supernatural being that just does not have a gender? Drake's character won't mind. Especially if that being is a full speed ahead agent of chaos.
Only having two types of immortals in the first season missed far too many opportunities to increase chaos. This mistake will not be repeated. Drake's love is a trickster who has a not entirely controllable ability to go invisible. This is very useful for pranking, which is Drake's love language after all so they are well-suited. The box of packing peanuts moving around on its own is a give away however.
Please tell me more. I'm running into the limits of my creativity. I can imagine ok enough if I have faces and voices to start from but from scratch it all falls apart once it gets past the basic ideas. So perhaps this is it for now.
Force is absorbed in his drawing. It's a face. Book the timid humidity spirit watches over his shoulder, talking to himself. That's really good. He's talented.
Force: Thank you. He looks startled as Book shouts YOU CAN HEAR ME?
Force, to himself, is someone there?
Book: YES. YOU CAN HEAR ME!
Force rubs his eyes, shakes his head and goes back to his drawing.
Catching a glimpse of himself in a mirror, Book stares at himself, then at the drawing, and then from one to the other again. THAT'S ME. YOU'RE DRAWING ME.
YOU CAN SEE ME?
Force the mysterious handsome vampire stranger isn't telling me anything else about himself but a friend did.
...this is the nonsense i'm writing. four of them are fart joke kind of guys and the fifth will laugh but probably not make them. i suspect they have farting contests when they're bored that they're not telling me about.
your antique brooch and cuff link collector idea will go to the mysterious handsome stranger at the very end. he will be a refined elegant gentleman living amongst and at times abetting the chaos. thank you x
The easily frightened humidity spirit has just told the refined elegant gentleman vampire about humidity spirits drawing their sustenance from steam and odors and the elegant refined gentleman vampire has put two and two together with the easily frightened humidity spirit's earlier and on-going compliments regarding his choices of shampoo and realised that said spirit has been joining him in the bath for some time now. He isn't sure what to make of this but is having a great many feelings.
All attempts at lingering physical contact between the two result in a rather damp vampire. The elegant refined gentleman vampire consults docudramas from the telly in search of alternate means. Unfortunately the metaphysics of those series do not apply in this one and the elegant refined gentleman vampire has little choice but to accept an increase in laundry. He installs a new drying line on the safer side of the back garden and purchases additional bed linens.
Flashback to Season 1: It's evening. Drake, Khaotung, First and maybe Louis and Neo if it fits with their schedule are sat around the kitchen table making grand plans for all the different kinds of plants they're going to get up early to go to the garden centre to buy tomorrow morning and spend the day planting. Humidity spirit Earth is hanging out listening. He had been hoping the mortals might open a few tins of beer but alas. He is intrigued by their plans however and when it becomes clear there will be nothing nutritious to breathe tonight, he heads upstairs in search of his mist-partner Mix because plants mean they will have the garden hose out, which means they will be side-tracked by spraying everything in sight, and out, with water.
After the bodied-beings take to their beds for the night Mix, Earth and Loong Book visit all of them, whispering "Garden Hose" repeatedly in their ears to ensure their own plans come to fruition. It will be a perfect day out for the kids.
This may be why going to the garden centre is forgotten about, although the promise of dirt is, of course, sufficiently compelling on its own, and Khaotung remembers to bring the garden hose round. We see the scene from season 1 again but this time we also see that the humidity spirits are enjoying it too.
Watching Moonlight Chicken again.... so at whatever point Christmas occurs, Louis shows up for the family zombie party wearing a Santa Claus beard, which Neo removes saying gently "No, Louis, no" and Drake's morning shenanigans involve getting Khaotung & First to wrap him in tinsel garlands. He's discovered Neo's preference for very loose knitting has given him a multitude of places to hang ornaments from and spends the day acquiring them and googly eyes. He also spends much of the day running to the kitchen whenever someone needs to search him for a utensil. Whilst there he is of course distracted by possibilities and ends up handing one over but acquiring three more, which of course increases the likelihood of him wearing whatever is needed next.
Neo and Drake are laying on the grass in the back garden watching the clouds and debating the meaning of life. Neo says that it's beating the boss level of every faculty at university. Except Dentistry because they're mad. "That's a purpose, not a meaning," Drake says. "And you've finished it." "I know," Neo says, "I know."
Drake says the meaning of life is chocolate sauce. Neo looks at him quizzically. "You've been a vampire too long Lung, have you forgotten what chocolate sauce is supposed to taste like?"
Two 200+ year old teenage brothers who really should at least be in their 20s are in the kitchen endeavouring to make a vegan vampire chocolate sauce worthy of its name.
Group chat to the characters: What is the meaning of life? First's character is quick to respond, Taking care of each other, he posts simply. Khaotung's character logs in a bit later, wishes he had said that and logs off to have a think. It's supposed to be a think about his own answer but it's really a think about his faen which becomes a think about being alone with his faen which becomes just that. Louis' character's answer should be Make shit up but that's far too direct for him. Prigkhing's character answers with a heart. Young neo Zen posts a fart and a kiss.
Flashback: Lung Book is sat on the edge of Drake's bed one night describing at length a way to cross the hall to First's room without touching the floor. They have to build a platform near the ceiling, with ladders up to it. This must be done. Drake rolls over, throws an arm out and, still asleep, disperse some of Book's mist. Book: You are sound asleep. How are you still dangerous? He gives an exaggerated shudder before gathering himself together and disappearing.

uff. finally watching Only Friends. Force sketches Book. not going there with mine then. the drawing was because Strictly danced a 3 minute BL series will all the feels which started with a sketch and this was in my mind when I was looking for a physical means of expression for First to parallel Khaotung's writing. but that was too obviously Yok so it was displaced from First and ended up in the ghost story because P'Med. but now it feels ick and others will see it as OF. way too much coincidental overlap with cast so even though it was step by step from different things and Neo is Duean, Drake & First because Blacklist, Khaotung because First, all but Drake from The Eclipse, Book because Cher, kept calling Force Gun until i wrote it down, but damn. the urge to protect Khaotung and make his Moonlight Chicken ma immortal came from everything I've seen him in so far, but yikes the overlap with OF is on point.
who can play a refined gentleman vampire with a ship who suits a timid ghost?
and vampires are the new BL rage? sighs. that was from the visual memory of Drake's movement when he's play-flirting with Wai in Bad Buddy and Jim Bae in Blacklist. it feels like the originality of mine is draining out by the day. i don't pay enough attention to upcoming to realise these things.
have finished Only Friends. so maybe we're not so squicked out by Force's Top after all. but First and Khaotung are definitely becoming dads. they'll be adopted by a family of three young kids, twin girls and a boy, who maybe aren't human because there's no way to make orphans not sad except to make them not orphans but strays who followed Drake home one day and if they're not humans they can have chaotic powers they don't know how to control yet. or maybe their species leaves eggs to hatch and imprint on and take the form of the first living beings they see which in this case happens to be our three friends so they're all co-parenting together. Grandma Hong is delighted. Khaotung writes an apology letter to Cleaning in advance. Louis,Drake and Neo are looking forward to being the sort of uncles kids adore. they even agree to stop sledging down the stairs on serving trays until the wee ones are grown.
and the new kids, they can see the water mist humidity spirits and learn how to operate the coffee pot for one of them.
--------
Had the idea that Book, the timid humidity spirit who's at war with Drake, which Drake is unaware of because he has no idea humidity spirits exist, is Mix and Earth's very cheeky son. This seems too good to pass up. He can certainly be a several hundred year old coffee-sniffing teenager but how does this work with Force whose character is perhaps overly mature, at least to start out with, without it being squick because of relative maturities? How long is a humidity spirit year by the way?
Re-imagine Force's character altogether to be more like Akk from the start instead of current idea of progression from somewhat Gun to somewhat Akk?
We also lose the flashback with the grown-up humidity spirits getting the bodied beings to bring the garden hose out for the mist-kids. Maybe it's a party and they invite their friends around instead? I prefer the parental aspect of it with mist-kids.
Or maybe it's Book and some of his friends being cheeky phi-nong?
Mist-mates Earth and Mix are feeling nostalgic for the wisp wisp of little mist feet now that the mortals and one of the vampires are co-parenting hatchlings and are considering once again mingling their mist in a reproductive way, perhaps after more garden hose mud is all you need festivities with the hatchlings. Their first-made may not act it, it's the influence of those immortal lads after all, but he is all grown up now. His two thousandth birthday was a decade ago.
-------- Nov '24
ENTIRELY re-imagining Force's character to be more in keeping with his green flag Akk, reconcile some problems in the set up and provide some semblence of a plot besides a BL...
A second humidity spirit family moves in after their lovely historic home was torn down for a food court or a parking lot (quote Moonlight Chicken). The original humidity spirit family grudgingly accepts them, although it does mean sharing steam and smells. They secretly hope the chaotic boy dangers will convince the new residents to look elsewhere. Singto and Krist for the new parents? Off and Gun? Force is their nearly an adult humidity spirit son who is at odds with and then befriends Book and joins in his war with P'Zazz who still has no idea water mist spirits even exist.
Or a new type of being? Something semi-bodied, visible to everyone but able to see and interact with water mist? (P'Zazz is voting for earth element because mud. Wait, how did he find out about humidity spirits?)
--------
Trying to work in a character for Kay Lertsittichai which isn't just Kay playing Gun (Who Are You) playing Kay. Like just drop him in and let him improvise. How does GMMTV not have him doing more comedy? Someone there understood what he could do with his first role.
-------- Feb '25
The mysterious handsome stranger with two pointed teeth who appears at the end of series one does indeed turn out to be a rather perfect faen for P'Zazz. This being is not a vampire however, but a shape shifter whose appearance changes at random and is played by multiple actors, including at times those already cast in other roles. The immortals and Aon, no wait he's Aof or did they switch again, anyway the taller one, are familiar with this characteristic and take it in stride. The Ao- who's not the taller one has not knowingly met this type of shape shifter before and finds it confusing, especially when he meets someone looking rather like himself in the kitchen one morning. They smell like cinnamon, which is how you recognise them. This is why they are sometimes known as cinnamon-shifters.
If you smell cinnamon and don't know where it's coming from, chances are the source is a shifter who's gone invisible for a while.

Louis,
and the new kids, they can see the water mist humidity spirits and learn how to operate the coffee pot for one of them.

Trying to work in a character for Kay Lertsittichai which isn't just Kay playing Gun (Who Are You) playing Kay. Like just drop him in and let him improvise. How does GMMTV not have him doing more comedy? Someone there understood what he could do with his first role.
