In casting around for ideas to try writing another story on, both to develop skills which might help me finish the first one and just for something to do, the two ideas which have had sticking power couldn't be more opposite. The first, as if I had the skills to write it decently, focuses on intimate partner violence. Listened to the wrong pod cast that week. The second comes from musing on the understated emotion in Bokaru no Shokutaku and how the actors playing the two young men quietly and gently conveyed it in characters who find it hard to express themselves. So now I've gotten attached to a story about two kind young men who work in a library and bond over their love of books. One of them needs a new roommate at the end of the month and living with him appeals to the other more than staying in his present situation with a roommate who plays his music too loud. So they move in together and propinquity helps them figure the rest out. The challenge is how to make it not too sweet whilst still avoiding conflict or relying on difficult things in their past they have to over come. I can't write to the quality of Bokaru no Shokutaku but maybe I can learn something if I aim for it.
